OVERVIEW
St. Andrew’s United Church Soup for the Soul program began when our congregational members became aware of the need of outreach in our community.
Being located in the downtown core of Brantford, across from Victoria Park, seemed to be the perfect location for community access.
In general, all individuals and families are invited to utilize the Soup for the Soul program.
VISION
To be a valued resource to our community, having a positive impact, to promote social networking, reduce isolation, and promote community cohesion
MISSION STATEMENT
Our programs will provide a safe, caring, trusting, and supportive environment where participants of all ages and faiths are encouraged to strive for goals.
HISTORY
The Soup for the Soul Program has been in operation since November 1999. The program serves 120 to 180 individuals at each meal. Patrons include youth, seniors, people with physical and mental impairment, the unemployed, individuals and families marginalized by financial difficulties, homeless and transient people. Our approach is holistic in nature and we offer a non-judgmental care and support for all people who enter our doors.
PROGRAMS
The St. Andrew’s United Church Soup for the Soul program offers two separate areas; one is offered to Adult individuals and families and the other is offered to children. Both of St. Andrew’s United Church Soup for the Soul Adult and Children’s programs offer a free, nutritiously balanced meal.
Adult Program
Benevolent Care, a literacy program, employment search assistance, nutritional guidance, budgeting, as well as offering direction to any outside service required.
Children’s Program
Every Monday and Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., the Soup for the Soul Children's Program offers crafts, stories, social interaction, homework help, and fun activities.
This program is free of charge and is meant for children 4 - 16 years of age and their families.
We welcome new children, but we would also like to welcome new families to Soup for the Soul.
This program is designed for the children and families who attend the regular meal program.
Parents are encouraged to participate with their children in the activities, but they may also take this time to visit with other parents or adults and have a quiet time away from their children.
